Blog Post #1

Hi, my name is Grayson Hefner. I am from Jacksonville, FL and I am a special education major. I chose to go into special education because I am very passionate about special needs, both physical and academic. I want to either become a special ed teacher or work in a program tailored to people with dyslexia. I am the oldest of three kids (not including my dog who my mom treats as her fourth child). I love anything and everything that involves the water or outdoors.
I have used technology such as word, powerpoint, blogger, iMovie, and adobe in many different classroom settings. I mostly used adobe when I was a yearbook editor in high school, so I became somewhat proficient in certain adobe applications. I used word and powerpoint for many group and individual projects in both high school and college. I have used other smaller applications for projects as my high school as very tech based since we has iPads instead of traditional textbooks. All of my notes and school work was done online.
I hope to learn in this class how to proficiently use technology in a classroom based setting. I want to be able to utilize all the technology I can to make my future classroom run smoothly and efficiently as well as being a fun and entertaining learning environment. Personally I love using technology when I can and I know many people benefit by learning through technology. I know I have a better chance at retaining the information if I can see the information in different forms besides word of mouth. I want my future students to have a better chance at learning and retaining the material the first time around rather than constantly having to repeat and reteach lessons.

  1. Great! We have a very special week about special needs and assistive technologies. It looks like you have being using all kinds of different technologies and have a very solid background. I will encourage you to go beyond the technologies and focus more on how to harness the advantages of technologies to accommodate different needs.
